Besides the vast experience, passion and craftsmanship it is important to know that the saxophones are made in the traditional way – which adds a great value.
Hand Shaped Cup
The hand hammered bell is a very intensive process. Yet this is a very important aspect because it gives the saxophone a much more resonant sound than when the bell would be pressed into its shape because the structure of the metal will be stretched and a quality loss will occur.
Furthermore, the use of quality raw materials is an equally important factor.
Alloy
The used copper alloy needs to be clean and from high quality. Some brands use soft and impure alloy which will cause severe wear after a short time and also will be manifested in a constant disruption of the adjustment of the keys. Some alloys are so soft that if you put some pressure on it, the rods will bend.
Blue steel springs
LC uses top quality blue steel springs. Why focus on “top quality”? Not al blue steel springs are the same. Often (eg Chinese) blue steel springs are used – which are of dubious quality. The springs used by LC are high quality imported German blue steel springs with a Rockwell Hardness (hardness testing) of 56. They guarantee a faster action / reaction and durability.
Pads
LC uses the world famous Italian Pisoni ™ pads. These pads are made of high quality leather and have a much more durability than most pads. Some pads are known to rapidly swell and tear. Placing new pads can be a pretty expensive business so it is recommended to use good pads. The metal reflectors provide a clear projection of sound and provide an excellent response from pianissimo to fortissimo. It’s important to know that not all Pisoni™ pads are the same. Pisoni™ makes pads in different qualities - so don’t assume that the Pisoni™ pads from brand A are the same as brand B.
Round surface octave key
The octave key is shaped in a way the octave mechanism can be easily operated with a slight movement of the thumb. The thumb rest is also ergonomically shaped.
Three-point brace
The cup and the body are firmly positioned by a three-point brace. It also provides a slightly better resonance, even when a fortissimo is required. The brace of LC is beautifully finished with the “LC” logo.
